<image:caption>An eastern hemlock planted in Toronto’s Lambton Woods in 2019. The planting was part of a forest restoration project completed by Urban Forestry's Forest and Natural Area Management unit. Toronto recently approved a change to its Green Standard for developers that will require landscaping near ravines and natural areas to be comprised of 100 per cent native species. <image:title>About - Meet our Wildest Child.</image:title>
<image:caption>Jessica Pelchat, G.Dipl. SR & S, PDC | Founder Jessica Pelchat is an ecosystem restorer and social entrepreneur who teaches, consults, and practices regenerative landscaping to reconnect people with nature. Her long-term aim is to educate the masses on water cycle restoration and help bring large-scale restorations to fruition. She is a graduate of the Social Responsibility & Sustainability Graduate program at the University of Toronto, is Permaculture Design Certified (PDC), and has studied various facets of Indigenous Environmental Science & Practice at Guelph University. Her multidisciplinary work over the last two decades has been focused on creating a more sustainable future through the building of social purpose organizations and actioning climate change remediation of various forms. Over the years, she served as Chief Sustainability Officer & Executive Vice President for a Canadian Profit 500 company, led the Canadian arm of a purpose-driven + award-winning management consulting firm, served years as Chairman of the CSR Advisory Council for the UofT Sustainability program, and was a member of the Climate Action Advisory Committee for the Municipality of West Grey. She has long been an advocate for the return to more natural processes and self-sustaining systems, and regularly provides values-aligned organizations with sustainability advisory services and mentors emerging leaders in this space. As an avid gardener for the last 20 years, she experiments with different regenerative applications such as Hügelkultur beds, food forests and ecosystem rehabilitation, as well as providing community programming and workshops. She enjoys nothing more than to rewild a new site and fill it with wonder and whimsy.</image:caption>

<image:title>Approach - Regeneration.</image:title>
<image:caption>Our name is our call to action: to “rewild” our landscapes, using natural processes to repair damaged ecosystems and restore biodiversity. By using a combination of methods, we build your landscape intelligently and beyond the sustainable baseline. Instead, our aim is to be regenerative. From leveraging natural systems and cycles, to building no-dig gardens and improving soil health, to focusing on native species and perennials. We plan and activate spaces using an approach that derives from many generations of wisdom to ensure your landscape is regenerative, low maintenance and is built for your local wildlife to thrive on for lifetimes to come. Check out our language “cheat sheet” of terms and explanations about what these regenerative methods are and why we choose to use them.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6165d36b059a2f0a33ceb7f7/2960c4b3-70f9-4035-a14f-4766dae9346f/shalev-cohen-uRlnISgCtME-unsplash.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Approach - Beauty.</image:title>
<image:caption>Spaces that open the eye also open the mind to learning, and the heart to appreciation. They attract your presence, participation and care. We take human-centric design into consideration at each step of our project, viewing each space as a unique canvas to beautify. We encourage wild beauty to take center stage by emulating natural systems, while also ensuring enough symmetry, open areas for enjoyment, and a balance in colours and textures. This results in spaces that are pleasing and set up to thrive.</image:caption>

<image:title>Approach - Function.</image:title>
<image:caption>In nature, everything serves a purpose, and often more than one. Likewise, our approach ensures purpose and functionality are integrated into all site elements. This means curated plant selection for your needs and climate, using available resources thoughtfully, and putting intention into all factors to ensure they serve functional purposes for local ecosystems and the people within them. We incorporate closed-loop systems (e.g. water catchment and composting systems), creativity (each site is unique), and simplified long-term management to equally ensure both the enjoyment and sustainability of our work.</image:caption>
